Nadia’s Initiative
Screenwriting and direction, animation, 2022
During her work with Nadia’s Initiative, Dalia Jacobs wrote and directed an animated video marking the anniversary of the Yazidi genocide. From developing the script to working closely with the animation team throughout production, Jacobs shaped the narrative, visual direction, pacing, and translation of the story into moving image.
The project required communicating the history and continuing consequences of the genocide to a wider public while approaching the experiences of survivors with sensitivity. Working between writing, research, and visual direction, Jacobs sought a language that could carry the gravity of the subject without relying on graphic representation or reducing it to information alone.
Created as part of Nadia’s Initiative’s advocacy and communications work, the animation brought together storytelling and visual communication to make a difficult history accessible while remaining attentive to the people and communities at its centre.
